Bedside Ultrasonographic Assessment of the Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter to Assess Intracranial Pressure in Patients Given Ketamine in Emergency Department

چکیده
Background: There is an ongoing debate if ketamine exerts any effect on intracranial pressure (ICP). ICP can be evaluated noninvasively by means of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurement. In the present study, we aimed to determine has perceivable using ONSD.
Material and Methods: this single-center observational prospectively enrolled patients who were admitted ED received intravenous for induction, analgesia, procedural sedation procedure (ie, fracture reduction, laceration repair, pacemaker implantation). ONSD was used rate changes both before after application.
 Results: a total 75 with mean age 59.8 ± 20.5 years. The majority applied Procedural Sedation (53.3%). administered median 5.10 (IQR: 1) mm 5.00 1.30) mm, respectively. occurred no significant change (p=0.832). 3.70 0.40) 3.65 0.23) prior procedure, (p=0.549). sedation, 4.05 (IQR:0.67) 3.97 0.69) This time, however, significantly reduced administration (p=0.001).
Conclusions: patient population, did not cause incremental ONSD, surrogate marker ICP.

Assessment of intracranial pressure with ultrasonographic retrobulbar optic nerve sheath diameter measurement
BACKGROUND Ultrasonograpic retrobulbar optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurement is considered to be an alternative noninvasive method to estimate intracranial pressure, but the further validation is urgently needed. The aim of the current study was to investigate the association of the ultrasonographic ONSD and intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients. METHODS One hundred and ten patients...
متن کاملOptic Nerve Sheath Diameter as a Bedside Assessment for Elevated Intracranial Pressure
A previously fit and healthy 26-year-old lady with no significant medical history presented with a two-month history of headaches. The headaches were prolonged, generalised, and unusually severe for the patient. Examination revealed papilloedema. The patient's optic nerve sheath diameter was measured 3 mm posterior to the globe and found to be 7.5 mm. The patient subsequently had computed tomog...
متن کاملPerioperative Noninvasive Assessment of Intracranial Tension by Ultrasonographic Monitoring of Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter: Our Experience
Intracranial hypertension occurs with significant regularity during general anaesthesia. Although majority of times it goes unrecognised and does not cause significant perioperative morbidity, its importance cannot be ignored especially in patients with intracranial pathologies. The intracranial tension can rise significantly during prolonged extreme positioning like steep trendelenburg positio...
متن کاملNoninvasive and quantitative intracranial pressure estimation using ultrasonographic measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter
We aimed to quantitatively assess intracranial pressure (ICP) using optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurements. We recruited 316 neurology patients in whom ultrasonographic ONSD was measured before lumbar puncture. They were randomly divided into a modeling and a test group at a ratio of 7:3. In the modeling group, we conducted univariate and multivariate analyses to assess associations be...
متن کاملElevated intracranial pressure detected by bedside emergency ultrasonography of the optic nerve sheath.
UNLABELLED Patients with altered level of consciousness may be suffering from elevated intracranial pressure (EICP) from a variety of causes. A rapid, portable, and noninvasive means of detecting EICP is desirable when conventional imaging methods are unavailable. OBJECTIVES The hypothesis of this study was that ultrasound (US) measurement of the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) could accur...
